The Episcopal Diocese of Kansas, established in 1859, covers the eastern 40% of the state, extending westward to Abilene and Wichita, and including cities such as Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan and the entire Kansas City metropolitan area on the Kansas side of the state line. Currently, the diocese has more than 8,500 members in 44 congregations in various cities and towns in eastern Kansas.
The mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas is to gather, equip and send disciples of Jesus Christ to witness to God’s reconciling love.
The diocese is organized into 11 “minsters,” groups of churches designed for mutual support and resource sharing to serve their neighborhoods and communities more effectively. In addition, seven task forces lead diocesan efforts to support actions within congregations and to neighboring communities. These groups focus on areas such as Creation Care, Children’s Ministries, Evangelism, Global Partnerships, Liturgy, Music and the Arts, Outreach, and Racial Justice and Reconciliation.
The Episcopal Diocese of Kansas also offers a variety of programs and events for youth, young adults and campus ministries, providing opportunities for spiritual formation, Christian leadership and fellowship.
The diocesan headquarters is located in Topeka, where Grace Cathedral, the diocesan cathedral, is also located.
